InfoCard distinguishes itself from Microsoft Passport in many ways, but among the most important are:
- "user centric" identity management - you choose which attributes of your identity are sent to the identity provider and always have the ability to "opt out"
- Identity information is not stored on your PC or in a central repository, it is stored and managed by the identity provider
